How to Choose a Landscaping Company for Your Montreal Property

Selecting someone to do work on your property is no job most any homeowner would do in a hurry. Plain and simple landscaping work can be extensive, including things like a lawn, patios, retaining walls, drainage, and more extensive landscaping changes. Changing course midway through the project can prove to be costly and frustrating.

That’s why it’s good to do some research prior to deciding between montreal landscaping companies. One of the first things to do is to consider what it is you wish to change. While a small garden overhaul is not the same as a full backyard makeover, not all landscaping companies provide the same services.

It’s also well to check out past projects. Images provide an indication of the nature of the work they typically perform and whether their approach is similar to the one you want. Not all the most impressive project, though. Look for similar examples as your property in size and type.

There’s also communication to consider. You should be able to understand what you want and what that will entail before agreeing to anything. If you’re not certain what materials or plants would be ideal, a discussion will help you to understand what you have to choose from.

When evaluating landscaping companies Montreal consider the extent of the job, not just the cost. Two quotes may be very different, depending on the materials used, the preparation work, and the drainage, or the planting or finishing.

If a project is larger, it is particularly crucial to prepare under the landscaping. A patio may look great when first installed, but with proper grading and preparation of the base, the performance over time may be impacted. This is also true for retaining walls and drainage systems.

Don’t forget the conversation of maintenance either. At times, a garden can be beautiful at a beginning, and still need attention. Inquire about the plants that will need to be trimmed regularly, how much irrigation they might require, and if the company offers continuous maintenance if you desire this.

Another practical issue is the weather in Montreal. The materials and plants used in the outdoor areas need to be appropriate for the weather conditions, as these will vary over the year. Taking steps for the summer and winter can help to keep your investment safe.

It’s also important to consider how the project will be managed and scheduled. There are multiple phases to landscaping projects, and the weather can impact outdoor construction. Understanding the process, what to expect, and the approximate time each step may take will make the process less stressful.

You need not know all the technicalities beforehand, before you approach a landscaping company. Some pictures of your property, general dimensions and a list of what you want to be changed is sufficient to initiate the discussion.

But make sure you select a company based on all of the factors— not just one. Review its work, services, communications, project specifics and materials being offered. The more you know about what you’re buying, the easier it will be to compare your choices.

A good landscape design is not solely for the purpose of improving the appearance of a home. It should also render the outdoor space easier, and more enjoyable, to use. A bit of research and thought about the right people and appropriate planning can mean the difference between good and great at the end of the day.
